Scholarship Overview

The University of Cambridge is pleased to announce the availability of Next Generation Research Fellowships (NGF). Students from all countries are encouraged to apply. He or she must be conducting PhD research within the scope of the Centre, with a focus on the trophoblast. The fellows will receive a yearly stipend of for the next three years.

The Next Generation Fellowships are intended to promote the prospects of high-calibre individuals pursuing innovative research within the scope of the Centre, with a focus on the trophoblast. Applications that address the Centre's identified Grand Challenges will be especially welcomed. The Fellowships are highly adaptable to individual needs and allow the holder to grow as an independent researcher in a supportive and stimulating environment. During their tenure, holders are expected to apply for a Research Fellowship/Career Development Award from a research council or other funding body, as well as a faculty position.

Scholarship value

The Fellowship is usually for three years and can be held in any department of the University or one of its affiliated institutes. A Fellowship will cover a personal salary on the Research Associate scale, as well as justified research consumables, necessary equipment, and conference travel. Successful candidates will be free to apply for additional funding from other sources, and are encouraged to do so. Fellows will be expected to contribute fully to the Centre's and their host department's activities.

Eligibility

Eligible candidates must meet the following:

  • The Fellowships are open to graduates from the United Kingdom, the European Union, and other countries.
  • Candidates should be within 5 years of receiving their PhD. (due allowance will be made for those whose career has been affected for personal reasons).
  • Applicants must demonstrate academic excellence, a strong research track record, and the ability to conduct independent research.
