The Performance and Elite Sport Scholarships provide substantial benefits to selected athletes, including:

  • A discount of up to £5,000 on program tuition fees,
  • Comprehensive access to Cardiff Met's excellent sports facilities,
  • A tailored package of support services, including strength and conditioning training from UKSCA accredited staff, sports science support (nutrition, psychology, physiology, biomechanics), sports medicine (physiotherapy, massage), active yoga and recovery sessions, and performance workshops.

Eligibility

Eligibility for the Elite Sport Scholar Award is broad, catering to:

  • Athletes studying or about to commence studies at Cardiff Met, across any course,
  • Those competing at an international level or performing towards the highest level in their sport, as evidenced by national or international/professional competition,
  • Applicants must be recommended by their NGB (National Governing Body) coach and/or the university's coach in their sport,
  • A commitment to compete for Cardiff Met in BUCS competitions and represent the university at open events is required.

Application Instructions

To apply for the Elite Sport Scholar Award, candidates must:

  1. Fill out the Elite Sport Scholar Award application form available on the university's website,
  2. Submit the completed form to the Head of Performance Sport, along with evidence of performance standards and coach contact details for recommendation.

Applications are open until June 30, 2024, with a thorough review process to ensure candidates meet the stringent criteria for sporting excellence and academic merit. Successful applicants will be notified following an assessment by a panel including the Head of Performance Sport, Students Union Sports Manager, and an academic staff member, ensuring a fair and comprehensive evaluation.
