Eligibility

To be considered for this scholarship, applicants must:

  • Be accepted into or currently enrolled in the first three years of a full-time doctoral program in the humanities or social sciences at a Canadian university.
  • Conduct doctoral research related to one of the Foundation’s four central themes.
  • Be a Canadian citizen studying at either a Canadian or international institution, or a non-Canadian (permanent resident or foreign national) enrolled in a doctoral program at a Canadian institution.

Application Instructions

Applicants must follow these steps to apply for the Pierre Elliott Trudeau Foundation Doctoral Scholarships:

  1. Understand University Deadlines: Each participating university has its own internal deadline. Candidates must ensure they apply within these timeframes.

  2. Register and Apply: Register for an account on the Foundation's application portal and complete the application form, including personal and contact information, and details about referees and research plans.

  3. Secure Recommendations: Enter the details of two referees in the application, who will then be prompted to submit their letters directly through the portal. Ensure you follow up with them to confirm submission.

  4. Compile and Upload Transcripts: Upload transcripts from all post-secondary institutions attended as one PDF document, excluding CEGEP transcripts for candidates from Quebec.

  5. Notify University Awards Officer: Inform the awards officer at your university of your application to ensure inclusion in the university’s selection process.

  6. Submit Before Deadline: Complete applications must be submitted directly to the Foundation by December 02, 2023, at 5 p.m. EST. The Foundation assesses all applications, upholding its commitment to diversity and regional representation.
