Scholarship Overview

The Research in Industrial Projects for Students (RIPS) Summer Internship Program, hosted by the Institute for Pure and Applied Mathematics (IPAM) at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), offers an unparalleled opportunity for international undergraduate students. This fully funded program invites students from around the globe to engage in real-world research projects in mathematics, computer science, and related disciplines, working alongside industry professionals and academic mentors. Through collaboration on projects proposed by sponsors from industry or the public sector, RIPS aims to maximize the exchange of information and cultivate a pool of well-trained research scientists focused on various pressing issues.

The RIPS Summer Internship is designed for undergraduate students and recent graduates who are immersed in fields related to mathematics and computer science. Interns will tackle projects encompassing a wide array of topics, including but not limited to space mission design, crime modeling, machine learning, weather forecasting, digital image blending, quantum computing, and finance.

Scholarship Value

Eligibility

  • Open to all international students who meet the minimum age requirement of 18 years.
  • Applicants must hold at least a bachelor’s degree in mathematics, computer science, or related fields, with recent graduates who have received their degree no earlier than December 2023 also eligible to apply.
  • Candidates must be eligible to study in the USA.

Application Instructions

To apply for the RIPS Summer Internship Program, candidates should:

  1. Prepare the necessary documents, including transcripts, CV/Resume, and two reference letters.
  2. Visit the official RIPS application portal and create an account using your email address.
  3. After logging in, fill out the Standard Coversheet and enter details for two reference writers. Do not notify the writers via the system at this stage.
  4. Proceed to the RIPS Application Form, complete it, and submit along with the required documents.
  5. Ensure to notify your reference writers by checking the boxes next to their names and sending them an email request through the system for tailored reference letters.
